“I lost reception using my hand-held radio so I gave my brother a call to see if the APRS packets were being received and reported on the internet, which they were. He told me the balloon was now floating over Mount Lawson State Park at 205 km/h. What? Was that even possible? Did the GPS malfunction? Is it still in Rutherglen? The APRS messages continued to be reported on the internet and showed the payload moving towards Mount Kosciuszko National Park. My friends and workmates were now all tracking the payload position using the internet and calling me to give updates as I drove north towards the Snowy Mountains Highway.”
