Dear All,
My small school radio club, K4DMS, in Summerville, SC suffered a tragic loss yesterday morning. A small plane carrying four members of the amateur radio community destined for the Bahamas to participate in a special DX contest crashed on takeoff at our local airport. The four individuals included Mr. Edwin Steeble, K3IXD. Mr. Ed, as my students called him, was our mentor, our advisor and our tireless helper. Mr. Steeble, came to my school every Tuesday to help run K4DMS. It was the school club roundup that brought him to me five years ago. He introduced, organized, and reported everything related to the school club roundup and so much more. I can’t even express how much I personally owe him or how much K4DMS and its students owe him. He is missed dearly. K4DMS wishes to dedicate this year’s results (if I can figure out how report them as Mr. Steeble always did that for me) of the fall and spring roundups to Mr. Steeble. We will be on the air today, but we will not participate tomorrow as originally planned. Mr.Steeble was not only an avid contester but he was also dedicated to emergency communications and served as the ARES net coordinator for our area and an active volunteer with the local EOC.
The other gentleman and fellow amateur radio operator gone silent key yesterday morning are: Randy Hargenrader, K4QO, Pete Radding, W2GJ and Dallas Carter, W3PP.
