D-Star Research

Greetings all,

This is my first post on the board as I finally got logged in correctly with a password that works! I’ve been researching D-star technology for my permanent mobile rig. One thing I have actually done is get the Nifty E-Z Guide on D-star operation at www.niftyaccessories.com.  They have all sorts of really useful guides to hams up to speed on their gear. It’s a easy way to help understand the technology and how to use it, especially if it’s something whiz-bang “new” like D-Star.

There are pluses and minuses to any technology and D-Star is no different. I won’t bore everyone with the details, but many people think this is the future of ham radio. Others think it’s a passing fad or a marketing blunder. Still others (understandably) are waiting on the fence for the technology to mature a little bit.

Currently Icom is still the only manufacturer doing it for mobile and portable rigs.  However….check out the link below to see what’s coming soon.

Ask Santa next time you see him and maybe one of these will end up under the tree.
