Thank you for showing your interest in the Chesapeake Amateur Radio Service (CARS), an IRS-recognized not for profit 501c3 charitable organization.
Our mission is to serve as an educational resource in the art & science of radio communications for those living and working in the greater Southeast Virginia area. We support the City of Chesapeake and surrounding communities as needed during communications emergencies.
We value our members and hope we can help you along your way in becoming or furthering your amateur radio skills. We enjoy the time spent together at our clubhouse meeting local radio operators as well as our time spent on the airwaves together. Come join us at our next monthly club meeting if you can (See our homepage or Calendar for latest updates).
CARS has 4 membership levels and membership privileges and dues vary based on the level (see https://w4car.org/join for more details)
Regular is available to any licensed amateur radio operator over 18 years of age.
Family for any licensed amateur radio operator and their family members.
Youth for any licensed amateur radio operator 18 years of age or younger.
Associate is for those not yet licensed but who want to join.
We are interested in what equipment (e.g. transceivers, antennas) you currently use and whether those could be deployed locally to assist during emergencies (e.g. post-hurricane recovery operations)
