CARS operates and maintains four repeater systems in the area. These systems are available for our members, local hams and even city officials, particularly for emergency communications traffic. The systems are as follows:

2 Meter Systems:

1) 146.820 MHz, -0.6 MHz offset, PL 162.2, Analog FM/C4FM (W4CAR)

2) 146.610 MHz, -0.6 MHz offset, PL 162.2 (W4CAR)

3) 145.150 MHz, -0.6 MHz offset, PL 103.5, Analog FM/C4FM (K4AMG)

70 Centimeter System:

1) 444.000 MHz, +5 MHz offset, PL 162.2, Analog FM/C4FM/WIRES-X (W4CAR)

Repeater Details

The VHF 146.820 Repeater and the UHF 444.000 Repeater are both located in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake. Both repeaters use a PL tone of 162.2 Hz for analog mode access. The repeater systems also transmit a 162.2 Hz tone for stations that wish to use tone squelch.

Our VHF and UHF systems now run on Yaesu’s “System Fusion” digital technology. This technology allows the system to handle both voice traffic and digital communications simultaneously. The system automatically switches from analog to digital depending on the accessing system. If necessary, the system can be forced to operate strictly in analog or digital mode.

CARS also maintains a city-owned amateur repeater system in the Bower’s Hill section of Chesapeake. Also a System Fusion capable repeater, the frequency is 146.610 MHz with a 162.2 Hz tone.

Additionally, CARS maintains the K4AMG VHF repeater on 145.150 MHz located in the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake. This repeater uses a PL tone of 103.5 Hz and supports both conventional FM modulation and System Fusion (also known as Yaesu C4FM digital ). The K4AMG repeater is also an Echo Link node.

These systems are open for all licensed amateur radio operators to use.
